Alloy 600 (N06600)

Alloy 600 is a solid-solution nickel-chromium-iron material built around a nickel content of 72% minimum. Because it is strengthened purely through cold work rather than heat treatment, it stays dependable across an unusually wide temperature band — from sub-zero conditions right through to roughly 1090°C. Its chromium content gives it a stable oxide layer, so it holds up well under oxidising conditions and resists chloride-driven stress cracking, an area where many stainless grades fall short.

Reaches for it: chemical and petrochemical plants, furnace muffles and heat-treatment fixtures, food-grade processing lines, and nuclear plant internals where both heat and corrosive exposure are present together.

Alloy 601 (N06601)

Alloy 601 takes the 600 composition and pushes the chromium content up to 21–25%, adding roughly 1–1.7% aluminium into the mix. That combination builds a tougher, more adherent oxide scale, which is exactly why 601 is chosen over 600 whenever the operating environment gets hotter or moves in and out of temperature repeatedly. It shrugs off thermal cycling and carburising atmospheres noticeably better than the base 600 grade.

Reaches for it: furnace baskets, radiant tubes and retorts, thermal-processing fixtures, and process equipment that cycles between high and low temperatures rather than sitting at one steady heat.

Alloy 800 (N08800)

Alloy 800 sits in the iron-nickel-chromium family — iron actually forms the largest share of the composition, with nickel (30–35%) and chromium (19–23%) layered on top to deliver strength retention and scaling resistance at elevated heat. It’s a practical middle ground: less nickel-heavy (and therefore more cost-effective) than the fully nickel-based alloys, while still coping well with oxidising, carburising, and nitriding atmospheres.

Reaches for it: heat-exchanger and superheater tubing, process piping in chemical and petrochemical units, and equipment exposed to carburising or nitriding furnace atmospheres.

Alloy 800HT (N08811)

Alloy 800HT is a tighter, higher-performance version of the 800 family — the carbon, aluminium and titanium content is controlled within narrower bands, and a specific solution-anneal step is applied to grow a larger grain size. The net result is materially better creep and stress-rupture strength at high, sustained temperatures than either standard 800 or 800H, which is precisely why refiners specify it for the toughest thermal duty.

Reaches for it: ethylene pyrolysis (cracking) furnace tubes, hydrogen reformer components, and other high-temperature process equipment that must hold its strength for extended periods above 900°C.

Alloy 825 (N08825)

Alloy 825 is a titanium-stabilised nickel-iron-chromium alloy with molybdenum and copper worked into the matrix specifically to fight sulphuric and phosphoric acid attack. The copper addition is what sets it apart from most nickel alloys — it’s particularly effective against reducing acid environments, while the chromium and molybdenum together keep pitting, crevice attack and chloride stress-corrosion cracking well under control.

Reaches for it: acid production and pickling lines, flue-gas desulphurisation and pollution-control equipment, and sour oil & gas service where both acidic media and chlorides are present.

Alloy 625 (N06625)

Alloy 625 owes its strength to a solid-solution matrix reinforced by molybdenum and niobium, so it reaches high mechanical strength without needing a hardening heat treatment. That same combination gives it standout resistance across an unusually broad range of corrosive conditions — pitting, crevice attack, and stress-corrosion cracking in chloride-rich water included — making it one of the most versatile nickel alloys for demanding, multi-hazard service.

Monel 400 (N04400)

Monel 400 is a two-metal alloy — nickel carrying the bulk of the composition (63–70%) alongside 28–34% copper — engineered specifically around resistance to seawater and hydrofluoric acid, two environments that punish most other alloy families. It also keeps its strength at sub-zero temperatures and stays non-magnetic, which matters in instrumentation and certain offshore applications where magnetic interference is a concern.

Reaches for it: marine shafting and propeller equipment, hydrofluoric acid alkylation units, valves and pumps handling hydrocarbons or seawater, and low-temperature or cryogenic instrumentation.

Alloy 718 (N07718)

Alloy 718 is built differently from the other grades on this page — it’s precipitation-hardenable, gaining its high strength from an age-hardening treatment that develops niobium-rich strengthening phases rather than from cold work or solid-solution effects alone. That mechanism lets it hold tensile and creep strength at temperatures up to around 700°C while still welding without the cracking problems that trouble many other age-hardening superalloys.

Reaches for it: high-pressure subsea and wellhead components, high-strength fasteners and shafts, and gas-turbine and aerospace parts where strength-to-weight at elevated temperature is the deciding factor.

Alloy C-276 (N10276)

Alloy C-276 is formulated for the environments other alloys simply can’t handle — a low-carbon nickel-molybdenum-chromium base with added tungsten that resists an unusually wide span of both oxidising and reducing chemical attack. Its low carbon and silicon content keep it largely free of the carbide precipitation that causes problems near weld joints, and it’s regarded as close to immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking.

Reaches for it: flue-gas desulphurisation systems, pulp and paper bleaching plants, pharmaceutical process equipment, and chemical processing lines carrying highly aggressive, mixed-acid or chloride-heavy media.
